Match Report - Winter 17/18 Week 6. Thursday 7th December 2017.
In week 6, leaders Frames A's 100% start has finally come to an end in a 5-5 draw at home against rivals Whitnash Tavern. It could have been a lot worse, as Tavern raced into a 3-0 and 5-2 lead, but a missed opportunity for Tavern to go top on head to head results as Frames hit back with the last 3 frames to remain unbeaten. Harj Dhesi with 2 frame wins for Frames.
Cavern Sports Bar A move up to 3rd but could have closed the gap on the leaders if they hadn't surrendered a 5-2 lead at home against Frames C. Frames with only 5 players available matched their A team's comeback by salvaging a point with the last 3 frames. Lenny Dawson with 2 wins on the night.
Cavern Sports Bar C drop to 4th after a 7-3 home loss to Holly Bush. The match looked finely poised at 2-2 until Holly took the next 5 frames to secure the win. Leo Bowmaster and Micky Martin with personal doubles as Holly move up to 5th.
Green Man B pick up their first win of the season at the expense of Tiltyard, but remain bottom 2 points adrift of their A team. In a close match throughout, Green Man took the all important 6th frame for a 6-4 win. Itty Sandhu and Harjit Aulak with a brace each for Green Man while Jack Worrall with a brace for Tiltyard.
Hodcarrier are back to winning ways and join 3 teams on 6 points, ahead of their victim's Green Man A on head to head and frame difference. At 3-3 the match could have gone either way, but Hod took the final 4 frames for a 7-3 win. Mark Hepburn, Paul Beaufoy and Dommy Pratt doing most of the damage with 2 wins each.
In division 1, Whitnash Tavern B consolidate their lead at the top with a hard fought win against Builders Arms A. Tavern were 4-2 up, helped by Builders only fielding 5 players, but had to rely on the last 2 frames to finally win 6-4. Nick Walker with 2 wins for Builders, Paul Harris with 2 for Tavern.
A strange game at Jet A versus Frames B saw 5 versus 4 as both teams were players short, effectively reducing the match to best of 9 frames. Jet's 5 players couldn't beat Frames' 4 players and Frames ran out 6-3 winners to remain 2nd. Alex Hood and Jon Garnett with 2 wins each for Frames.
Green Man C move back up the table to 3rd after bringing Woodloes Tavern's unbeaten start to an end. First Green Man led 2-0 then Woodloes led 4-2 before Green Man took the final 4 frames for a superb 6-4 win. Paul Crossley and Simon Callender with a brace each for Green Man. Woodloes drop to 4th.
Hope Tavern's revival came to an abrupt end when Wheatsheaf Inn A came visiting. At 2-2, a close game looked on the cards, but Wheatsheaf took the next 6 frames for an 8-2 win. Sean Butler and Daz Hynes both helped themselves to doubles for Sheaf.
Greyhound looked like they could repeat last week's performance as they briefly led 3-2 at home against Joiners Arms B, but Joiners turned the match around and secured the 3 points with a frame to spare, 6-4 the final score. Tiago Ribeiro and Ruben Silva with a brace each for Joiners.
In division 2, Clarendon are now the last remaining team in all divisions with a 100% record. They made it 6 out of 6 at Fusilier whose record is the exact opposite with 6 losses. The match never in any doubt with Marty Bibby, Andy Brown and Andy Butler all helping Clarendon on to a 7-3 win with personal doubles.
Foresters lose ground on Clarendon and now find themselves 8 points adrift as Radford Semele Club end a run of 3 consecutive losses with an excellent 7-3 win. At 3-3, Radford take the final 4 frames and field 10 different players in the process. Foresters with the long journey back to Warwick empty handed, Radford up to 4th.
Joiners Arms A move up to 2nd after Elephant and Castle call off their game on the night having failed to raise a side. Joiners awarded a 10-0 win. Elephant & Castle drop to second bottom. Builders Arms B are still not out of the running at mid table after another hard fought win, Windmill B the unlucky visitors. After an even exchange of frames, Builders took the all important 10th frame for a 6-4 win. Richard Smith with 2 wins in vain for Windmill.
After a slow start to the season, Grist Mill win big for the second week running. They found themselves 6-1 up at St Patrick's Club and finally ran out 7-3 winners. Brian Collins with 2 wins on the night.
With the league leaders in division 3, Wheatsheaf B, having a bye, Green Man D took full advantage making no mistake against New Inn to go back to the top of the league. Cavern Sports Bar B called their match off with Windmill A on the night as they were unable to field a team, Windmill awarded a 10-0 win and their first 3 points of the season. They rise 2 places to 6th as a result. Cavern drop to second bottom.
